Name: Érica Gomes
Company: Deloittee
Position: Consultant – Core Business Operations
Tell me about you and your role?
I’m 26 years old and originally from Portugal, now living in Ireland. My current role involves working with clients within the public sector, where I help maintain and evolve multiple applications. The main technology used for developing is Java but we are dependent on multiple other technologies.
Tell me about your career path so far?
I would say my career started the moment I decided to study engineering. I decided to do a Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineer after participating in a robot building competition. I really liked the idea of solving problems and building something, so an engineering degree seemed like the best option for me. After I finished my degree, I wanted to learn as much as I could, be around people from different areas and be exposed to different cultures, so I joined Deloitte Portugal. While there, I got to participate in various projects around the world to build impactful systems using OutSystems as the main technology. In February 2021, I joined Deloitte Ireland and started to work with various other technologies. I am looking forward to improving my skills and learning from all my experienced colleagues.
What do you like about working in tech?
I like working in technology as I’m always working towards a visible end result. Everything we do has an impact on someone’s life, even if they don’t know it. I also love the challenges we get every day – fixing a bug is almost like doing a puzzle or playing a game.
