Earlier this week Mastercard had the pleasure of hosting a CWIT Accelerate AI event at the Mastercard Dublin Tech Hub.  The topic was Understanding Data, Bias and Machine Learning  with a central theme of enhancing Responsible AI.  It is more than just about ethics in development—it’s also about diversity and inclusion. Women need to be part of the conversation- in datasets, in development, in research, and in every space where AI is shaping our future. Gender balance means richer, more diverse perspectives, and ultimately better outcomes for all. It’s not just the right thing to do — it is smart business.

We were joined by Grace Hayes and Mike Murnane from Mastercard who shared their insights as Senior Technology Leaders working within the Technology industry with us.

This was followed by insights from our Truata team.  Truata, a privacy-enhanced data analytics solutions provider. Co-Founded by Mastercard and IBM, Trūata designs and builds Privacy Enhancing Technology solutions that maximize the value of data analytics, while minimizing the risks associated with privacy exposure. Noel Rogers and Dr. Michael Fenton from the core data science team in Truata delve into understanding more about data and data bias.  They shared their subject matter expertise and insights through real life examples and use cases and illustrated the need to be aware of bias in AI and as the model learns.

Finally, Dr Lollie Mancey, a powerhouse in progressive education, innovation, entrepreneurship and the future workplace shared her thoughts and insights with us on the broader societal impacts of gender diversity and AI and reiterated the fundamental need for women to be part of the discussion for the better good of our future world.
